The short answer
Runway is one of the strongest choices for creators who want advanced generative video rather than a template-based content-video workflow. Gen-4.5 supports text-to-video and image-to-video with detailed camera and motion prompting, while Aleph 2.0 focuses on transforming existing footage and Act-Two transfers a recorded performance to a character. Runway also combines its own models with third-party models, Agent and reusable Workflows. The main trade-off is cost predictability: serious video iteration can consume credits quickly, so the best plan depends heavily on the models and number of generations you use.
Runway's current flagship video model for Text to Video and Image to Video. Cost: 12 credits/second; 2–10 second generations; 720p base output.
Current advanced video-to-video editing/stylization model. Academy pricing lists 28 credits/second.
General image-to-video generation at 12 credits/second.
Lower-cost image-to-video at 5 credits/second.
Character performance transfer/animation using a performance video; 5 credits/second.
Image generation/editing; current rates 5 credits/image at 720p and 8 at 1080p.
Conversational AI creative partner for producing complete multi-shot videos.
Purpose-built simplified workflows for specific creative tasks.
Node-based system for repeatable, customized and scalable creative pipelines.
Runway currently exposes additional models from multiple providers inside its ecosystem.
Pro and higher currently include unlimited 4K upscale.
Separate Runway Dev platform; web-app credits and API credits are not interchangeable.
The brief lists plan credits, but requires live confirmation of subscription prices. Unconfirmed plan amounts are deliberately omitted. Max replaces Unlimited for new high-volume users; do not choose a plan using old Unlimited offers.

Gen-4.5 and Gen-4 Video are listed at 12 credits/second; Gen-4 Turbo and Act-Two at 5; Aleph 2.0 at 28. Gen-4 Image is listed at 5 credits for 720p and 8 for 1080p.
At 12 credits/second, one 5-second Gen-4.5 generation uses 60 credits and 10 seconds uses 120. These are single-attempt costs; failed or discarded generations increase the cost of a usable shot.
Standard/Pro monthly credits expire. Max/Team allow up to one month’s unused credits to roll over in the brief. Purchased credits do not expire. Runway Dev uses a separate credit balance and billing system.
The brief lists 720p base output for Gen-4.5, with Pro+ 4K upscaling. Upscaled output is not native 4K generation. Unlimited closed to new users in June 2026, with legacy migration to Max described for November 2026.

The bottom line
Choose Runway if you want serious generative-video control and expect to create individual shots, transform footage, animate characters and iterate creatively across multiple models. Pro is a logical tier for regular creators who need all models and 4K upscale; Max is designed for much heavier generation volume. If your actual goal is to turn a blog or script into a complete stock-assisted explainer with minimal shot-by-shot work, a tool such as Pictory is a better category match.
